There was joy and jubilation among many Ghanaians yesterday, August 23, 2018, when former President John Dramani Mahama made known of his intention to contest in the 2020 general elections.
The news which was delivered through a letter to the headquarters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) sent a lot of Ghanaians, especially NDC sympathisers into a frenzy as many have been waiting for this news from the former first gentleman of the land.
According to Mahama, his decision to contest the 2020 presidential elections was a result of the bellowing calls from Ghanaians and supporters of the NDC.
In his letter, he stated that he could not ignore the calls of the people who have always been on his heart and the center of everything he does, hence choosing to come back and contest again come 2020.
He also discussed the fact the fact that he had an unfinished business and agenda which he must come back to complete as president of Ghana.
Mahama’s first hurdle will be coming out on top of the party’s internal flagbearership contest which would be held in December this year. He is expected to be challenged by other prominent party bigwigs such as Alban Bagbin, Professor Joshua Alabi and Dr. Ekow Spio-Gabrah
