Being a celebrity comes with enormous advantages like; public admiration, affection and love, getting to live luxurious, exploring all the beautiful places on planet earth and simply living good.

However, like a coin, the consequences of stardom could be negative, such as; extortions, black mail and even pushing fake news about celebrities for monetary and other gains. These Ghanaian celebrities listed below were once victims of fake news that claimed that they have died, while they were much alive.

Agya Koo

Veteran Ghanaian actor and comedian Agya Koo was reported to have died on Sunday, July 12, 2020, but the story was debunked briefly after online news portal, Ghanaweb published a disclaimer informing Ghanaians to do away with all claims that the Kumawood actor is dead.

Further checks have revealed that this is actually not the first time the actor had been reported dead. In January 2011, Agya Koo was reported to have died after he was said to have been involved in an accident with his new Zoyte SUV prize car in Accra, on his way to Kumasi after organizers of Ghana Movie Awards presented the car to him.

Agya Koo is still alive, kicking and residing currently in his Kumasi home. The actor receives over 500 calls after the fake news went viral.

In 2018, Ghana’s favourite rapper Sarkodie was rumoured to be dead. Befitting his status, the news of his ‘death’ spread as fast as a wildfire. Well, it all started when the BET award winner got into an accident on his way to Asante Agyem Agogo for a show on Easter Monday with Amakye Dede.

After the fake news reached them, Sarkodie posted on his twitter page to announce that he is still alive and ready for his show.

In 2019, there were claims and reports that famous Kumawood actress, Rose Mensah, popularly referred to as Kyeiwaa, has kicked the bucket. This rumour lingered on for about a week because the actress then did not to refute the claim. However, later on, the actress came out to refute all such claims.

According to Kyeiwaa, she is currently residing in the USA. She claimed she only came public after her death reports to only calm her true fans and reassure them she is still alive. She threatened to invoke curses on any media house or blogger who fabricate fake death stories about her.

Kumawood actor, Joseph Nana Osei Kofi, popularly known as Wayoosi, although alive has been pronounced dead more than once.  In 2016, the actor was rumoured to be dead but this news was refuted by Viasat 1 TV.

Although he was alive, he was admitted to the hospital and was in a critical situation. A similar rumour emerged in 2013 that suggested that Wayoosi’s leg had been amputated, while another story claimed he was dead, forcing the actor to come out to deny the rumours.

The case of popular kumawood actor, Davis Abraham, known in the media circles as Salinko, is quite different. Salinko once claimed he travelled to hades and left his body lifeless. Some bloggers took advantage to pronounce him dead. After news of his death went viral, he came out briefly to debunk all those claims in an exclusive interview with Zionfelix on the “Uncut” show.

Ghanaian high life music lovers were confused by rumours that legendary Ghanaian Highlife Musician Daddy Lumba was dead in 2019. However, the news was refuted when famous blogger Kumi Kasa published a story where he claimed the manager of Daddy Lumba had confirmed that the artiste is still alive.

Abedi Pele

In 2016, there were reports that Ghanaian legendary footballer and former captain of the Black stars, Abedi Pele is dead. The news was quickly rubbished by his famous sons Andre and Dede Ayew, who posted on their social media pages and revealed in interviews that their father, Abedi Pele was still alive.
