Death did lay its icy hands on a lot of popular and non-popular people in both Ghana and Nigeria but something horrifying has been noted as a small Ghana leads a very big Nigeria in the number of celebrity deaths in the first half of 2020.
In this write-up, we will be looking at the celebrities that “kicked the bucket” in Nigeria and Ghana this year, 2020. It looks like Ghana is leading Nigeria in celebrity deaths by 11 to 6.
He was a Ghanaian gospel musician and known for popular songs like ” Mehuris” and ” Okumchulla”. He is also known as the ” dancing prophet”. He has a lot of songs like “Ade A Nyame Aka, Enkosi Aga, Adansidie” among others. He died on Friday, April 24, 2020 at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
He shot to fame after featuring in a movie titled “IPhone 7” which was produced by Junka Town. Borga Zee fell ill shortly after a brief taste of family and died shortly afterward
C. K BEDI
popularly known as APC, He was a blind keyboardist and noted for playing for the Yamoah Band. He worked on songs such as “Odo Midi Ntwen Me, Ehye Wo Bo”. He did played keyboard for the Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Bubuashie- Accra. C. K Bedi died on Monday 6, April 2020.
Also known as 9-9-2-4, was a Ghanaian songwriter and singer. He is known for highlife songs like “Owuo Seifie, Abeiku” and many others. He has 15 albums to his name. He worked with King Sunny Ade of Nigeria. He died on June 15, 2020 at home after a short illness.
BISHOP BERNARD NYARKO
He’s was a kumawood actor cum musician with a lot of movies to his name acting alongside the likes of Lilwin, Agya Koo, Christiana Awuni, Nana Ama McBrown etc. He died on May 2, 2020 after battling with colon cancer
KOFI BOAKYE YIADOM
He was known in showbiz as Kofi B, a highlife musician with songs like “Mmbrowa”, “Kofi Boakye”, “Koforidua flowers” among many others. He has a lot of albums to his name. He died on February 2, 2020 afterwards short illness.
Her real name was Beatrice Chinery, was a Ghanaian actress. She shot to fame after featuring in Kejetia, a TV series in the 2000s. She again featured in TV series such as “YOLO” and “Jamestown Fisherman”. She died on June 10, 2020 from complications of hypertension at Korle – Bu Teaching Hospital.
He was known as “Favorite MCs MC”. He was a media personality and worked at Despite Media. Kojo hosted the Neat FM’s drive time show. He died on Thursday, June 15, 2020 at Nyaho Medical Center in Accra after a short illness.
APRAKU MY DAUGHTER
Real name Evangelist Emmanuel Kwaku Akpraku was the founder and leader of King Jesus Evangelist Ministry International. He endured hardship after losing all the branches of his Church. He died on Tuesday, May 20, 2020.
He was a former Presidential Correspondent during the Mahama Administration and the Secretary of the Presidential Press Corps. He died on March 2, 2020.
He was a renowned Ghanaian artiste manager and he was noted for managing Ghanaian artist Castro. He was a regular entertainment pundit on Onua FM, Kasapa FM. He worked with Multimedia Group Limited and other media houses. He died on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Korle – Bu Teaching Hospital.
He was a Nigerian drummer, composer and songwriter. He worked with music groups like “The Good, The Bad and the queen”, “Africanism All Stars. He acted in a movie titled “Finding Fela”. He drummed and directed Fela Kuti’s band ’70 from 1965 to 1971. He was a co – founder of the Afrobeat music genre. He died on April 30, 2020 in Paris where he lived.
She was a Nollywood actress who featured in a lot of movies like “Ignorant Couples”, “Kings Guard” “where Money Never Sleep” among many others. She died on Wednesday, May 21, 2020 in Enugu after collapsing.
VICTOR OLAIYA ABIMBOLA
He was a Nigerian trumpeter. Though famous in Nigeria during tree 1950s and early 1960s, Olaiya received little recognition outside his country. He played his trumpet in the highlife style. He died on February 12, 2020 at Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
She was a Nigerian actress who featured in “Living In Bondage” and her Igbo comedy series “Nkanyi Sei Ebi”. She is known for her role as Aunty Atinuke in popular TV drama, Tinsel. She died on Friday, May 20, 2020 after battling with stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Love Divine aka Kodak was a female dancer in the Nigeria music Industry. She died from electrocution while charging her phone at the home of ace music director, Clarence Peter. She worked with a number of top artistes like Olamide, Burna Boy among others.
He was known as Majek Fashek. He was a Nigerian songwriter and singer who played the guitar as well. The 1988 album, Prisoners of Conscience which featured multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain” shot him to fame in his native country. He died on June 1, 2020 in New York.
