Ghana fail to beat Benin in AFCON opener

The Black Stars were held to a 2-2 draw by Benin at the Ismaïlia Stadium at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Adana Demirspor striker Mickaël Poté scored in the second minute to put the Squirrels in front but Ghana Captain Andre Ayew equalized in the ninth minute with a powerful low drive.


Jordan Ayew put the Black Stars ahead for the first time in the game when he slotted the ball into the roof of the net  with three minutes to end the first half.

Ghana defender John Boye was sent off for his second bookable offence after he delayed to take short kick in the 54 th minute.

Poté had his brace in the 63rd minute after the Ghanaian defence failed to mark him out in the box.


Jordan Ayew was named the man of the match.

Ghana plays defending champions Cameroon on Saturday June 29.
