First Lady Clar Marie Weah has expressed deep regrets over the death of nearly thirty children as a result of a fire disaster at the Islamic Mission School in Red-light, Paynesville.
“My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the victims and their families and I wish them many who were injured a swift and full recovery,” Mrs. Weah said in a statement Wednesday.
At least 28 persons, mostly children, were trapped and killed after fire gutted an Islamic school building early Wednesday morning in the Bassa Community, outside Monrovia.

The First Lady, deeply saddened by the situation, described the demise of the children as a national tragedy and an irreparable loss to the country.
The Liberian First Lady conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families and urged the nation to continue to pray for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s souls.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the children, who were being trained in the Islamic faith, were asleep. At least four children survived the incident and are being treated at the JFK Hospital.
