Minister of Finance and cousin of the president, Mr. Ken Ofori-Attah has found himself in hot waters after his comment on the Free SHS policy implemented by the government did not go down well with President Akufo-Addo.
Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, the finance minister opined that it maybe necessary for the government to revisit the drawing book and make some changes to the current policy as he feared, the policy in its current state may cause huge financial burden for the government.
In his explanation he argued that parents who were rich and had enough could be made to pay their wards’ fees while the poor in society would have the fees of their wards catered for by government, in order to reduce the burden on government.
This statement has however not gone down well with the president who feels his cousin and minister of finance had undermined the government’s policy and the competence of the government by airing those views on air.
According to inside sources, the president felt that was not the right channel to make such suggestions considering that the finance minister is a cabinet member who regularly attends cabinet meetings together with the president.
The president even though is not happy with Ken Ofori-Attah has no intention of showing him the exit door as he still considers him as one of his best performing ministers.
