Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has been ruled out of Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign in June due to medial knee ligament injury.

Bailly sustained the injury in United’s 1-1 stalemate against Chelsea and had to be withdrawn in the 71st minute.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the severity of the damage which will rule him out for the rest of the Premier League season and the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 25-year-old joined United from Villarreal in July 2016 for £30million.

He has made 17 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions this season.

Ivory Coast have been drawn alongside Morocco, South Africa and Namibia in Group D.
