This year’s edition of Sallah Fest, one of the biggest musical festivals in Ghana, which is celebrated at the end of Ramadan, has been launched in Accra.
The concert is expected to bring various Muslim communities together to celebrate the breaking of the 30-day fast in the month of Ramadan.
The full-day celebration will be held at Nima, often referred to as the unofficial headquarters of the Muslim community in Ghana.
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Sallah Fest and the concert has received some online push to give it the needed hype.
Some of the activities lined up for Sallah Fest are a parade to the various sub-chiefs of the Nima community, a football gala, quizzes and recitals, and the [email protected] Legacy project.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief of Nima, Nii Futah, advised the youth to be law-abiding in order to mark the festival successfully.
“Now we have been told, time and time again that we should be disciplined, we should behave ourselves whilst we are celebrating. I’m happy to say that each year, we see improvement of behaviour of people who attend the fest, we hope this year will be better.”
The Nima Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Abraham Acquaye, also assured that the police are in talks with the leaders of the Muslim community to help keep law and order during this year’s Sallahfest.
According to him, the respect the youth have for their leaders in the Muslim community will help achieve the goal.
Also speaking at the launch of the Sallahfest, Abraham Acquaye said, measures have been put in place to contain any acts of lawlessness that may come with the season.
“We have put in place a lot of mechanisms, structures and systems so that we don’t record any criminal activity or even if any should be recorded at all, it should be in the minimum. We can achieve this through education. We have to work hand in hand with the members of the community, they respect their Imams and their leaders, that’s why we have been having meetings with them to help us bring the menace to the barest minimum.”
The festival is organized by EXP Ghana, an Experimental Marketing Agency, in collaboration with Hiplife group ‘VVIP’ and Chapter O, and is sponsored by MTN.
