4 Junka Town actors who have died

The movie industry in Ghana expanded steadily to the Western Region in 2015 when a comic movie from the camp of the Tango One Films headed by Solomon Bosumtwi Sam dubbed Junka Town attracted attention to the region’s film industry.

The cast of the production are indigenes of the region that extremely use the hilarious Takoradi Fante lexicons and Jargons in acting. Their productions feature actor Ibrahim Alhaji Iddris (Too much), Alaska, Mansa Mensah (Ajara Mapouka), Yoghurt, Tracey Hayford (Tyga) etc.


As small as the production is, four of its members have died within three years, with the first death occurring in 2018. Western Region alone has lost more actors within three years than Greater Accra and Ashanti. What makes is questionable is that Junka Town accounts for all the region’s death.

Let us take a look at the actors Junka Town has lost to death.

KOJO ANTWI, (Abele Wabedem)

The sudden and painful death of Kojo Antwi popularly known as Abele Wabedem came as a shock to all and sundry within the Western Region and beyond. Abele was the biggest of all the actors in the movie. The maverick actor featured in the popular movie as a controversial figure. The leading actor was said to have passed away after a short illness. Others also attributed his death to obesity and cardiac arrest. The actor’s death came up on social media in the early hours of October 15, 2019.


MANSA MENSAH, (Ajara Mapouka)

The Takoradi movie industry lost one of its finest actors to the icy hands of death. Mansa Mensah popularly known as Ajara Mapouka played a key role in the hilarious Junkatown comedy series which originates from Sekondi Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. The Ghanaian and Takoradi based actress who was at the centre of most controversies in the hilarious series died on the eve of New Year in 2018 (Monday, 1st January 2018), from an undisclosed illness. Mapouka was loud and lively. Her sudden death was tough to swallow.



Valerie Chidima Austin, a 21-year-old Actress cum Singer starred in the popular Tanganyika, Vow of Silence and Junka Town comic series passed on in 2018. According to a close to Valerie, the actress had an attack while at her beach residence in Takoradi. She was rushed to the Takoradi Hospital and later transferred to the Cape Coast Hospital where she gave up her ghost at dawn.


After a brief taste of fame, Bolga Zee, a cast of Junka Town passed on. He featured in a movie titled “Iphone7” which was produced by Junka Town. Although the cause of death is yet to be determined, speculations are that the actor was ill.
